More than 5000 students study at the institute incorporating 6 faculties and 19 departments.

 The main aim of the Institute is to assure high quality of education and to encourage students in their desire to study and to develop their skills of acquiring information from different sources.

The research work of institute is directed at improving the teaching process and solving the urgent problems of the Ukrainian economy. The Research Institute of Economic Development provides the organization and coordination of the research at the institute.

In 2004 in accordance with the Decree of the President of the National Academy of Sciences, the mister of Industrial policy and the Head of the State Commission of Natural Resources in Ukraine the Institute set up the Research Center of the Economy of Mineral Resources. The Center was given the task to solve the problems of the use of mineral resources. The main directions of its research are market research of Ukrainian and international markets of mineral resources, analysis and forecast of prices, economic evaluation of deposits with the use of methods of dynamic modeling taking into consideration the factor of price for the investment and profits.

The chairs of the institute work on different projects financed by the government and consult business organizations on different business matters. The chair of International Economics is working on the project “Development perspectives of international business activity of the ore mining and processing enterprises located in Kryvyy Rig Region, the chair of Finance is working on the project “Improvement of financial management at the ore mining and processing enterprises of Kryvyy Rig Region”, the chair of Control and Auditing is engaged in the project “Analysis and calculation of costs for the decision making process”.

The Institute cooperates with many international organizations.

At the request of the Mongolian industrial complex “Erdenet” the chair of Information science under the supervision of O.Zelenskiy developed a digital model of copper and molybdenum deposits.

 282 qualified specialists, including 16 doctors of economic sciences, professors and 100 candidates of economic sciences, associate professors provide scientific and methodological basis of education. 

 16 teachers are working on their postdoctoral theses, 28 people are enrolled in doctoral programs.

The Institute publishes its own collection of scientific works “Bulletin of Kryvyy Rig Economic Institute of Kyiv National Economic University”.

 In the process of education improvement the university has acquired many computers, their number accounts to 330. The Institute has opened 10 computer rooms and 7 educational rooms; it also has a well developed computer network linking all educational rooms and buildings of the Institute. The university has established an educational and methodic center equipped with 130 modern computers and multimedia.

 The Institute has a Center of learning foreign languages.

 The Institute has concluded agreements with the leading enterprises of Kryvbas so that the students could complete their internship; many efforts have been made to help graduates find employment. We cooperate with the educational establishments in Ukraine and abroad.

 Research work is carried out in such forms: scientific research, scientific consulting, scientific expertise, informative provision of scientific research.

The Scientific Center of Economy of Mineral Resources of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine works in the framework of the institute. The Department of Economy of the Academy of Mining Sciences of Ukraine was founded on the basis of the Institute.

In 2005 Kryvyy Rig Economic Institute took part in the tender process organized by the European Economic Society “Tempus” and was given a grant for the development of the course for the higher educational establishments of Ukraine and Georgia “Economic Ecology” (duration of the project – 3 years (2006-2009)).

Partners of the Institute in the international project are Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University, Donetsk National Technical University, Ivano-Frankivsk National University of Oil and Gas, Kryvyy Rig Economic Institute of KNEU, Dzhavahishvili Tbilisi State University, Georgian Technical University, Tvalchrelidze Caucasian Institute of Mineral Resources, French Educational Center (Centre de Geotechnique et Exploitation du Sous-sol (CGES)), Austrian University (Montanuniversitaet Leoben).

The main task of the project is to develop, test and implement the course “Economic ecology” in the higher educational establishments of Ukraine and Georgia and to provide the teachers with teaching materials.
